"It's one attack with everything you've got."

Twenty-Two

Astro Day III: Crescent Cutter

Thankfully, the class ended without any more stunning revelations for Jordan. He had enough revelations for one day. His mind was occupied with the possibilities. He couldn’t wait to call Darius and tell him what he found out, but he and the team were headed to dress in their combat gear for their next session with Alexander in Coliseum 7. It was clear that that call would have to wait.

At their approach, Alexander met and informed them, “Sorry to disappoint, kids, but we won’t be working here today.”

“What? Why?” Cooper was the first to ask.

“We’re going to the field house for some extra training.”

This answer did little to assuage their curiosity, so Alexander offered, “Don’t look to me for answers. Cadet Harris is the reason we’re switching it up today.”

For the second time that day, Jordan felt all eyes on him. By the way things were going, he was going to have to get used to it.

“Wait, is this over last night?” Jordan asked.

Alicia turned to him sharply. “What else happened last night?”

“I – I snuck out,” Jordan admitted.

“Indeed,” Alexander quipped. “And he received his first of three strikes on his first night. It would be impressive if it wasn’t, you know, unbelievably stupid.”

“What happened?” Alicia sneered.

“Nothing.” Jordan scrambled for an answer. “I just –”

“Well, obviously something happened,” Sydney snapped.

“C’mon now,” Alexander teased. “You’ll have plenty of time to insult Cadet Harris later on. Follow me.”

Ugh. What a drag. Jordan grumbled and face-palmed. He risked a glance at Reuben, who was sporting his usual stoic face. Before Jordan could ask his opinion, Reuben replied with a simple, “You know.”
